vhope | 2.9k words | non-traditional omegaverse, childhood lovers to exes to lovers

Strong pine from the familiar forest just beyond the platform floods Taehyung’s nose as he steps off the train, adjusting his grip on his daughter in his hand. The sleeping pup whines quietly under her breath, turning her cheek on his shoulder and Taehyung instinctively pushes out more of his oak moss scent to keep her calm and sleeping.

There’s still at least another hour until they reach their destination, and Taehyung would rather that she slept for that time.

“We’ll be home soon, Hasun-ah,” Taehyung murmurs, dipping his head to kiss her temple before grabbing his bags with his other hand and heading off the platform.

Thankfully, Hasun stays asleep through the next hour, and before Taehyung knows it, he’s stepping out of the taxi and looking up at his childhood home. When he left here nine years ago, Taehyung was sure he wouldn’t return. Now, though, he almost wishes he’d come back sooner.

“Taehyung-ah?”

Taehyung drops his gaze to the front of the house where his older brother, Seokjin stands. The alpha hurries down the stairs, and Taehyung has to blink back tears as jasmine envelops him and he melts into his brother’s embrace. “Hi, hyung,” he whispers.

Hi, oh I’m so glad you’re here, Tae-yah,” Seokjin breathes. He presses his nose to Taehyung’s cheek in a light scenting before pulling back completely and looks down between them where Hasun is still asleep. “And I get to finally meet my beautiful niece.”

Regret and happiness swirl in Taehyung’s chest as he takes in the love present in Seokjin’s gaze. He gently shifts Hasun in his hold. “Would you like to hold her?”

“Yes, but let’s—” Seokjin glances over his shoulder, then reaches for Taehyung’s bags, “Let’s get inside first, hm?”

Taehyung nods, pulling Hasun back into his chest as he follows Seokjin into the house. He’s unsurprised to end up in another crushing embrace, followed by a strong wave of a familiar black tea scent, and soft I missed you’s whispered into his ear. Jimin only pulls back when Hasun lets out a fussy noise, and Seokjin tuts from behind them.

“She’s so beautiful,” Jimin breathes as he pulls back to look at Hasun who squirms slightly. “Can I hold her?”

Taehyung doesn’t hesitate to hand her over to Jimin, chest swirling with contentment again as the alpha holds her close. Taehyung bites back a smile when Seokjin leans over Jimin to pet Hasun’s hair. Hasun is only seven months old, but quickly capturing the hearts of her uncles.

They eventually move out of the entryway, Seokjin having already taken Taehyung’s bags into his childhood bedroom. Both alphas continue to fawn over Hasun as they settle in the living room, and Taehyung uses the chance to escape down the hall.

Stepping into his bedroom is both familiar and strange. Most of it is empty as Taehyung a majority of his things before he moved out to the city, but there are traces left nine years prior. The dent on the floor where his old twin bed was before his parents bought him a larger one. His parents live back with their old packmates now, deeper in the forest, and Taehyung’s sure he’ll be hearing from them soon.

There are also the small pin holes dotting the walls where he’d hung all sorts of things. Some of them are scattered over the desk that he’d studied at all through his high school years, which is covered in different doodles and scratches. Beside it stands the empty shelf he left, most of the books now sold or lost.

He exhales, taking one more look over the room before turning to the two bags Seokjin set at the end of the bed. He grabs the one where he’d packed all of Hasun’s stuff into, and opens it to pull out her bottles. She’ll likely be waking up soon, so it would be good to get her food ready.
