Hoseok takes a sip of his beer, contentment settling over him as he looks around the campfire. His friends murmur quietly between themselves, and Hoseok smiles to himself, thinking about how lucky he is to have them.

They seven of them spontaneously decided to take a trip out to Yoongi’s uncle’s lake house for the week, and it was the end of the first day. They hadn’t really done much, most of them immediately settling in for long naps after the drive up to the lake house. Now, they were hanging out around the campfire, sharing drinks after a late night meal and they had the rest of the week to do whatever they wanted.

His eyes drift over to the newest member of their friend group, Jeongguk, as he messes around with Seokjin. He’ll deny it if anyone asks, but Jeongguk is cute.

Both Namjoon and Yoongi had teased him about the first time Jeongguk had come to one of their get-togethers.

“Don’t even try to deny that you’re interested in him,” Yoongi says, smirking at Hoseok.

“He’s definitely your type,” Namjoon adds. “I give it a few weeks.”

Hoseok denied it, and truthfully he’s had a hard time getting close with Jeongguk. While they would exchange few words every now and then, Jeongguk mainly spent time with the others during their get-togethers, practically avoiding him. Hoseok tried not to let it bother him, and still tried to spark different conversations with him to get to know him whenever he could.

He’s brought out of his thoughts when Yoongi calls his name, pulling him back into the conversation as they begin to casually plan for the week ahead. An hour later, he startles when Jeongguk shifts to sit next to him, and the edge of his zipper hits his cheek. Hoseok hisses softly and brings a hand to his cheek, shaking his head when Jeongguk turns around, apologizing profusely.

“It’s fine, really,” Hoseok promises.

“No, I—”

“If you really feel that bad, just kiss it to make me feel better,” Hoseok teases, tapping the spot on his cheek where he got hit.

A few seconds of silence pass, and Hoseok turns back towards Jeongguk to let him know he was kidding, only for his eyes to widen in surprise when he finds lips brushing his own.

Jeongguk immediately pulls back, cheeks quickly darkening in the firelight. “I’m so sorry, it was an accident I—”

“It’s… It’s fine Jeongguk-ah,” Hoseok murmurs.

They awkwardly stare at each other for a moment before turning away, rejoining the conversation with their friends and pretending nothing happened.

But Hoseok can’t stop thinking about it, eyes finding Jeongguk during their group outings during the rest of the week. Sometimes, Jeongguk will catch him staring, and Hoseok secretly delights in seeing the blush rise to the other’s cheeks when he turns away. So when the week ends and they’re preparing to return home, Hoseok pulls Jeongguk aside.

“I really am sorry about that night—” Jeongguk tries to say.
